Still, with eight gears to play with and an engine that revs to 8,500rpm, the experience of unleashing the 296 in full flight is absolutely breathtaking. As the numbers suggest, the rate of acceleration is of the ‘hold on tight/nervous laughter’ variety, verging on the uncomfortable but strangely addictive at the same time.
